Wondering when to go to the Seychelles on a yacht? We’ve got good news. Lying just south of the equator, the Seychelles sit outside the hurricane belt and severe storms are rare - meaning this heavenly archipelago is a safe and welcoming year-round superyacht destination.
Unsurprisingly, the most popular tourist time in the Seychelles coincides with major holidays around the world, with the peak visitor numbers in December and January, with another peak in July and August to tie in with the northern hemisphere summer break.
For superyachts, the high season for Seychelles yacht charters runs between November and March, as the gorgeous tropical landscapes and warm seas of the Seychelles provide the perfect antidote to the cold northern winters. There’s lots happening across the islands during this season, including seeing whale sharks (November) and turtle hatching season (Jan-March).
It is worth noting that the November to March period is also the hot and rainy season in the Seychelles, although showers and thunderstorms tend to pass quickly rather than setting in as rain. Expect temperatures over 30 degrees, high humidity, and occasional tropical downpours. Winds are relatively light at an average of 10-15 knots, and the breeze proves a very welcome relief on hot days!
The ultimate weather for a Seychelles yacht charter is in the autumn and spring months of April, May, October and November, as these ‘transition’ months fall in the calm, beautiful window between the trade winds.
April has the best water visibility of the year, dead calm days, and little rain — but beware, due to the lack of breeze, it can feel very hot. You will definitely be enjoying the yacht’s air-conditioning!
May continues with great diving conditions, calm seas and minimal rain. May is less hot than April, but the wind can pick up later in the month as the monsoon threatens.
October offers a heavenly break between the south east and north west trade winds. This is a great time for snorkelling and diving, with calm seas and excellent visibility. October is also the best time to see whale sharks in the Seychelles.
November is also a superb time to be in the Seychelles, with calm seas and good visibility, and a good chance of seeing whale sharks. The yachting high season begins in November, kicking off lots of fun in the islands.
