The Yachts That Make Abeking & Rasmussen Great

Apart from their expertise in producing pilot vessels, the company also produces the far more glamorous yachts often used by the rich and famous including the 40 metre expedition yacht Silver Cloud, which embarked on a trip around the world. Doubtless at some stage it will show up in the Mediterranean which is an expedition in itself during the summer where hordes of yachts and a number of super yachts congregate to allow their owners or those that charter them to enjoy the flesh pots of Cannes, Monaco, Portofino, Antibes, and. The rest of the Riviera. Abeking & Rasmussen have always stood for beauty, elegance and technical perfection.

The Yard

They have evolved into a state-of-the-art shipbuilding complex, currently consisting of 5 halls of ships of lengths up to 80m, modern office buildings, an inner harbour and a syncrolift. Environmentally friendly workshops housing high performance production facilities for conventional steel, aluminium and non-magnetizable steel, have constructed nearly 6,500 yachts and boats. Abeking & Rasmussen commissioned a new pilot craft called the Elbe in 2009. It was the largest if its kind built by the company, just over 60 metres in length and nearly 25 metres wide and was christened by Suzanne Ramsauer, the wife of the Herman federal minister of Transport, Building and Urban renewal in Germany. Abeking & Rasmussen tendered for the construction in 2006 and were successful, it taking 5 years to come to fruition. This is one of 2 vessels which are designed for use by pilots on the German Bight. They are going to replace 40 to 50-year-old predecessors which are nearing the end of their useful lives. They have built 8 earlier similar boats and most of them are used either by German or Dutch pilots, although Belgians have recently shown an interest. Given the special hulls that have been a unique feature of the production process, the company has many more forthcoming pilot vessels. The company also builds 25 metre tenders which have exceptional navigational capabilities with SWATH technology.
