The course runs over three days and is designed to train candidates in basic seamanship and watch-keeping practice both on the bridge and in the engine room. Candidates learn how to steer the ship in our bridge simulator, to assist the Officer of the Watch and act as lookout. They learn basic health and safety both on deck and in machinery spaces and how to carry out rounds in both areas.

The seamanship content includes all of the major knots, rigging of a pilot ladder and bosun's chair and also how to turn a berthing hawser around bollards in a safe manner. This is a 3 day course!
