Bluewater Scholarship Programme Terms & Conditions v. 1.2

Introduction

Bluewater provides funding for dedicated and experienced seafarers who are seeking to complete a Certificate of Competence (CoC) to work as a deck or engineering officer in the yachting industry.  

Two candidates (one in Antibes and one in Palma) will be selected to into the Officer of the Watch (OOW) funding programme and complete the training modules to obtain a Notice of Eligibility (NoE) required for an oral examination. The list of modules included in the OOW scholarship programme are:

·      Navigation & Radar (OOW) Yacht

·      General Ship Knowledge (OOW) Yacht

·      Efficient Deckhand (EDH)

·      HELM Operational

·      ECDIS - Electronic Chart Display & Information Systems (OOW)

·      GMDSS General Operator Certificate

·      PSC&RB (restricted) (available in Antibes only)

Two candidates (one in Antibes and one in Palma) will be selected to into the SV EOOW funding programme and complete the following training modules to obtain a Notice of Eligibility (NoE) for an oral examination. The list of modules included in the SV EOOW scholarship programme are:

·        SV Marine Diesel Engineering

·        SV Auxiliary Equipment - Part 1

·        SV Operational Procedures, Basic Hotel Service & Ship Construction

·        SV Workshop Skills (available in Palma only)

·        Advanced Firefighting

·        Medical First Aid

·        HELM Operational

·        PSC&RB (restricted) (available in Antibes only)

The scholarship programme does not include any costs associated with:

·        Obtaining a Seafarer Medical Fee (ENG1) or MCA accepted alternative Seafarer medical)

·        Any external oral or written examination fees

·        Travel and accommodation costs

·        Any subsequent retakes and resits of attendance modules and written examinations.

·        Funding to gain qualifying sea time or mileage

 

Bluewater Scholarship Programme Entry Requirements

To be considered for the scholarship programme the candidates applying for the deck training modules should already have:

·        Valid ENG1

·        STCW Basic Safety training modules: FP&FF, EFA, PST, PSSR, PSA, PDSD

·        Yachtmaster Offshore CoC, including a shore-based certificate

·        36 months sea service as per MSN1858 or any subsequent amendments

To be considered for the scholarship programme the candidates applying for the engineering training modules should already have:

·        Valid ENG1

·        STCW Basic Safety training modules: FP&FF, EFA, PST, PSSR, PSA, PDSD

·        Approved Engine Course (AEC) 1

·        Approved Engine Course (AEC) 2

·        24 months employed in the engineering department on vessels over 200kw main propulsion power, as outlined in MSN1904 for experienced seafarers or any subsequent amendments

·        6 months at sea in the engineering department on vessels over 200kw main propulsion power, as outlined in MSN1904 for experienced seafarers or any subsequent amendments

 

Selection Process

Candidates will apply for the Bluewater Scholarship Programme by completing the online application form as follows:

·        Provide CV and two references from your captain, senior crew or management company

·        Provide one profile photo and a short personal statement

·        Prerequisite certificates and documents to be uploaded to the online application form

 

Applications will open on 1 September 2025 and close on 31st October 2025 at midnight.  Any applications submitted after the closing date will not be considered.

Candidates will be chosen by the Bluewater Scholarship Programme Panel. The panel is comprised of seven senior figures of the yachting and maritime industries, including captains, chief engineers and others from shore-based companies and associations.  The decisions of the panel will be communicated to the candidates by Bluewater. There is no appeals procedure and the decision of the panel is final.

The successful candidates will be announced in mid-December 2025 and courses can be booked from this date.  The courses included in the Bluewater Scholarship Programme will be held at the Bluewater Training Centres in Antibes (France) and Palma de Mallorca (Spain).  Training must be completed within 2 years of funding being awarded.

 

Terms & Conditions

All entering candidates understand and agree to accept the following conditions of entry into the programme.

1.       All applicants accept the Bluewater Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

2.      All applicants consent to the use of their name, photo and details of their scholarship award for the purposes of promotion of the scholarship across Bluewater channels. 

  1. All successful candidates agree to take part in interviews with the Bluewater marketing team during the scholarship period and in the month following the end of their scholarship period.
  2. All successful candidates will be required to provide a brief update in writing to the Scholarship Panel upon completion of their training outlining the impact the Scholarship has had on their career and any relevant developments within their employment in the maritime sector.
  3. The conditions under which the Bluewater Scholarships are awarded may be reviewed and amended if necessary.
