Yachtmaster Offshore Theory & Practical

This certificate takes a week of theory and a week of practical training and is highly recommended for all deckhands after they have gained some experience in the industry.
The Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster certificate has become the industry standard entry level qualification over recent years. It is the first formal training in navigation and seamanship that deckhands receive on their path to higher MCA issued certificates and it is a vital part of their maritime education.
The Yachtmaster carries MCA recognition as a certificate of competency in its own right under the ‘Small Commercial Vessel’ codes. Holders of the certificate can command a charter yacht up to 24m loadline length up to 150 nm from a save haven, and for this reason it is not a beginners course. (see entry requirements).
For MCA OOW, Chief Mate and Master Certificates it is a requirement that this theory course is successfully completed as part of the training (though it is not required in all cases by the RYA themselves for the issue of the Offshore).
Entry Requirements:
2500 sea miles, with at least half being tidal miles,
50 days at sea, (5 as skipper*)
5 passages over 60nm including:
2 overnight passages and
2 skipper passages
*equivalent experience can be considered
Other Requirements First Aid certificate (elementary module of STCW ok) VHF Licence Sea Survival Certificate (for commercial endorsement) Medical Fitness Certificate (for commercial endorsement)

Duration : 6 Days Theory
                   5 Days Practical

Note:Candidates should have a basic understanding of passage plans, navigation, tides, meteorology and charts.
