St Tropez has long been a haven for the rich and famous. In the 1920s Saint Tropez attracted international stars from the world of fashion. Then in the 1950’s and 60’s it became famous for a number of movies which were filmed there, most notably for Brigitte Bardot’s film And God Created Women.
Today, St Tropez still attracts famous and wealthy guests including many movie stars and other celebrities on the no less than 40 different beaches. Tropezien beaches are located along the coast in the Baie de Pampelonne also know by the residents as Grania, which lies south of Saint-Tropez and east of Ramatuelle. Pampelonne offers a collection of beaches along its 5 km shore.
Many of the beaches offer windsurfing, sailing and canoeing equipment for rent, while others offer motorized water sports, such as power boats, jet bikes and water skiing.
Along the Beaches are famous beach restaurants where movie stars flock to including Club 55 and Nikki Beach.
Away from the glorious sandy beaches and the yacht-filled marinas, St Tropez features some historic cobbled streets, endless cafes and gift shops, with its main tourist information outlet being located on the bustling Quai Jean Jaurès
In addition, each year, in early October, a regatta is held in the bay of Saint-Tropez. This is a draw for many yachts, some up to 50 metres in length.
