The Aeolian Islands
were named after the God of wind, "Aeolus". They are also referred to as the Lipari Islands as Lipari is the largest of the eight. It is the most popular Island for visitors who come mainly for the lovely white sand beaches at Spiaggia and Ponente (Marina Lunga). The other Islands are Vulcano and Stromboli, the two active volcanoes, Salina, Filicudi, Alicudi, Panarea and Basiluzzo.
