Located in Vlissingen in Holland, Amels builds semi-custom and fully custom superyachts up to 120m, as well as a range of expedition yachts and support yachts through its parent shipyard, Damen, a leading Dutch-owned global shipbuilder. Holland’s largest shipyard with direct access to the North Sea, Amels has a longstanding reputation for excellence, building high-quality, high-value yachts with a strong precedent of delivering on time and on budget. 

The Yachts That Make Amels Great

Opening its doors in1918, AMELS joined the luxury yacht industry in the 1970’s, launching a fleet of iconic custom yachts including the extraordinary 75m Montkaj and the trailblazing Tigre D’Or, the first superyacht to be built to the Large Yacht Code. In 2005, Amels changed its primary focus, moving into production of the Amels Limited Edition Range, a spectacularly successful series of yachts that lie somewhere between full custom and semi custom, allowing clients high levels of customisation while dramatically reducing delivery times and technical risk. 40 yachts in this series have been delivered since 2005. Amels did not stop building fully custom yachts during this era, with occasional launches of custom yachts that thrilled the world, such as the 85m Here Comes the Sun in 2017, the largest yacht launched from Amels to date. There are other fully custom yachts under production at Amels, including a highly anticipated hybrid expedition yacht and Project Signature, a 120m superyacht due for launch in 2025. Watching the growing popularity of remote cruising, Amels’ parent company, Damen Yachting spearheaded an entirely new class of yacht, the Support Yacht, building functional, ruggedly handsome vessels to carry fleets of yacht toys and additional crew and guests. They also moved into production of a series of expedition yachts, the popular SeaXplorer range. 

The Yard

Amel’s boasts the largest shipyard in Holland at 100,00 square metres, with direct access to the North Sea to allow for launches and refits of very large yachts. Comfortable climate-controlled halls keep out the North Sea weather, and there are covered 145m and 204m dry docks. Amels also has access to the Damen shipyard at Vissilgen East, with additional dry docks, and military grade steel construction facilities. These breadth of facilities plus Damen’s world-class research and development capabilities, mean that Amels yachts remain at the cutting edge of maritime engineering and design. Amels also conducts superyacht refits at their Dutch yard, and offers ongoing service and support for Amels yachts during their lifetime.
