The MCA have introduced a Yacht Rating Certificate, required for deckhands aboard large sailing yachts and motor yachts over 200 tons.
This three day course will teach you the basics of seamanship such as knots and ropes, turning up heavy berthing ropes and basic rigging. Steering, helm orders, engine prestart checks and shut down procedures, are also in the syllabis as well how to use an oil spill kit, amongst other things.
A single Yacht Rating Certificate, covering both Navigational and Engineering watch keeping duties will be issued by the MCA to successful candidates.
